About Jean-Philippe Dufresne
Jean-Philippe holds a BA in Ancient Studies from Laval University and is currently completing his Master’s under the joint auspices of the Programmes in Ancient Studies and History. His Masters’s thesis centres on the formation of young Roman aristocrats under the early Principate as they prepared to fulfil their military obligations within the evolving structure of an increasingly professionalised army. More specifically, he explores the technical and operational exigencies of siege warfare, and the forms of specialized knowledge such campaigns demanded of those entrusted with their command.
