Vermeer’s celebrated tronie shows a young girl turned toward the viewer in exotic dress and an oriental turban, with a large pearl earring catching the light. Painted around 1665 in oil on canvas, it is among the artist’s most recognizable works and has been in the Mauritshuis collection since 1902.
