About
Painted in Arles in mid-September 1888, this nocturnal scene captures a café terrace glowing under a yellow lantern. Van Gogh described it as a "night without black," using vivid blues, violets, greens, and yellows to render the street and sky, while his signature Post-Impressionist brushstrokes add energy and movement. The work is notable as one of his first starry night paintings.
