About
Seurat’s monumental canvas captures a Sunday scene on the Île de la Grande Jatte, where 19th-century Parisians gathered beside the Seine. Inspired by color theory, he built the composition from carefully placed dots of paint, pioneering the Pointillist technique and creating a defining statement of Neo-Impressionism.
